New to Moments Lab? This glossary covers the key terms you'll come across throughout the Help Center and the platform, from how your content is organized to how you edit and share it.
Organizing your catalog and workspace: events, collections, custom fields and organizations
Event: an event is a user-defined structure you create in the UI to group content as it's ingested, for example by show, season, year or date range.
Collection: a collection is a saved search that automatically gathers matching content under a tag or theme, such as a show name, a person or a recurring phrase. As new content comes in, anything that matches is added automatically, no manual work required.
Custom field: a custom field is a metadata field your organization adds on top of the standard ones, for information specific to how you work, such as rights status, content type or production. Custom fields can be filled in manually or populated automatically by AI.
Organization: an organization is a group of users with its own access to content in your workspace. Organizations keep teams, labels or external partners separate, so each one sees only the content meant for them.
Your content: media files, moments, sequences and shots
Media file: a media file is a full source file, like a complete episode or program.
Moment: a Moment is a short, time-coded segment from a longer video. It could be an automatically detected highlight (like a soundbite), a user-defined clip, or a custom sequence selected during editing.
Custom moment: a custom moment is a type of moment your team defines for your own shows, so our AI detects it automatically across your catalog. Use them for the recurring parts of a format, such as cold opens, challenges, eliminations or fight scenes, or for the moments that make good social clips. Once set up, custom moments appear alongside your other search filters.
Shot: a shot is the smallest unit inside a sequence: a short, continuous segment based on a camera angle.
Sequence: a sequence is how MXT3 (Moments Lab's video understanding AI) groups similar shots together based on what it detects on screen. It's made up of those shots plus the transcript, where available.
Sound bite: a sound bite is a timecode in/timecode out segment identified by MXT3 as a key moment in an audio transcript, such as a standout quote from an interview or press conference.
Finding content: Discovery Agent
Discovery Agent: the Discovery Agent is your AI-powered research assistant for video. Describe what you're looking for in plain language, the way you'd ask a colleague who has watched every episode, and get matching moments back in seconds.
Browsing your catalog: Moments and Media Files views
You can browse your catalog either way:
Moments view: Moments view shows individual shots, and sequences within longer assets. Use it to find a specific moment without scrubbing through a full file.
Media Files view: Media Files view shows full episodes, programs or long-form assets. Use it when you need the complete file or its full context.
Collecting content: Projects
Projects: Projects are persistent spaces for collecting moments, clips, media files and photos, added from anywhere in the platform. Work on several at once, then share, download, or open any of them in Studio to edit.
MXT3 and thesaurus
MXT3: MXT3 is Moments Lab's proprietary AI technology for indexing and understanding video. It analyzes your footage to generate transcripts, detect faces and objects, and describe what's happening on screen, powering search, moments and sequences across the platform.
Thesaurus: the thesaurus trains Moments Lab's AI to recognize people, so they're identified automatically across your moments and media file search results. It's made up of labels (identifier metadata) and faces (people trained into the system).
Editing: Studio
Studio: Studio is Moments Lab's built-in video editor. Trim, reframe, add subtitles and apply your brand style, then publish, all without leaving the platform.
