Live streams let you record from a channel that's already connected to Moments Lab and turn that recording into a searchable event. Once your recording finishes, it's automatically indexed and ready to search like any other event.
Before you start: recording requires a device that's already connected to your workspace, whether that's a broadcast feed or an internal camera stream. You can't add a new one yourself: the number and type of connected channels are set up as part of your project configuration. Contact our Support team to add or change one.
Depending on your channel configuration, recordings can be created in two ways: automatically when a stream starts, or manually by starting or scheduling a recording. Each recorded chunk has a maximum duration of 4 hours.
Automatic event creation from an input stream
If your channel is configured to detect when a stream starts—for example, from a camera used for a specific shoot—an event is automatically created as soon as the stream begins. You don’t need to press Record.
Manual recording
You can manually start a recording right away or schedule one in advance for a specific time slot.
Go to the Recordings tab.
2. Choose how to start:
Record: starts recording the selected channel immediately. You can fill in the details below while the recording is already running.
New Recording: schedules a recording for a specific time instead of starting immediately—for example, later today or tomorrow.
3. Fill in the recording details, then save. Available fields depend on your workspace, but as a minimum:
Title: becomes the title of the resulting event.
User & sharing: which organizations can access this media.
Recording: the channel to record from.
Start Time & End Time: the scheduled start and end of the recording, optional if you're starting immediately.
Transcript: the source language for transcription.
Cognitive tasks: which AI tasks to run automatically, such as MXT3 (Moments Lab's video understanding AI) or person detection.
Notifications: where to send a notification when the event is created, by email, SMS or Slack.
Once your recording finishes, our AI automatically analyzes and indexes it, so it's ready to search and use like any other event.
