Edit Your Clips: Timeline and Trimming

Arrange, trim and cut your clips until the timing is exactly right.

The timeline runs along the bottom of the editor, with each layer, clips, subtitles, overlays, on its own row. Drag, trim and cut clips directly on it to build exactly the composition you need.

The timeline

The timeline runs along the bottom of the editor. Each row is a separate layer:

  • Clips: your video footage

  • Hook: the opening hook segment, placed automatically at the start of your composition when you use the Hook feature

  • Subtitles: auto-generated from the speech in your clips

  • Logo: your uploaded logo or image overlay

  • Text overlays: manually written titles and on-screen text placed at specific moments

  • Videos: video files added as overlays, including files from outside Moments Lab (useful for animated logos and supplementary footage)

Toggle any track visible or hidden using the eye icon on the left of each row.

Navigating the timeline

Move the playhead: click anywhere on the timeline to jump to that point in your composition.

Zoom in and out: use the zoom controls in the top right of the timeline. Zoom in for precision work on a short section, zoom out to see your full composition at a glance.

The toolbar above the timeline gives you quick access to everything you need:

  • T: add a text overlay

  • Image icon: add an image insert

  • Camera icon: add a video insert

  • Hook icon: mark the current moment as the opening hook

  • Scissors: cut the clip at the playhead position

  • Trash: delete the selected element

Trimming and cutting clips

To trim a clip:

  1. Select the clip on the Clips track.

  2. Drag the left edge to adjust the clip start, or the right edge to adjust the clip end.

  3. Release when you're happy with the cut point.

To cut a clip at a specific frame:

  1. Move the playhead to the point where you want to cut.

  2. Click the Scissors icon in the toolbar.

Studio splits the clip into two segments. You can then trim, delete or rearrange each one independently.

Use the ↩ and ↪ buttons at the top of the editor to undo or redo any action.
