In this article, we will see the difference between on rack devices (managed) and on field devices (unmanaged) on our platform. Understanding how these two types of device work is essential for a good use of the recording page.

On Rack (Managed)

These allow a complete management of a flux recording, as well as its stop, directly from the platform.

When you broadcast to an on rack device, the recording only starts if an event was created before. You then have the possibility to force the recording by doing a crash record.

  • The crash record can be done via the Recordings view by clicking on the REC grey button located in front of every device.

  • It is also possible to stop a recording from the Recordings view with an on rack device by clicking on the REC button (which is red when the device is recording)

On Field (Unmanaged)

These can't be controled directly from the platform.

To record with an on field device, you can create an event beforehand. In that case, please make sure that the start of the event matches with the start of the stream, otherwise, the flux will be recorded in another event, that will be created automatically.

  • If the connected button of the device is activated, streaming to the platform will automatically create an event, which will have a preset duration.

  • If the connected button of the device is greyed-out, it will be impossible to stream to this device. Reactivate it to "reopen the door" to this device.

To stop the recording / streaming on an on field device, it is necessary to cut the recording / streaming on the device that streams and not on the platform, otherwise, it will just start back up over and over.

Congratulations, you are now familiar with the on rack and on field devices management on our platform !
